Thomas Jefferson Dumbwaiter Reproduction
This mahogany dumbwaiter was built as a reproduction of a dumbwaiter from Thomas Jefferson's Monticello dining room collection. The original piece is attributed to the Monticello Joinery shop - possibly built by Henry and Joseph Ingle. The Monticello reference accession number is 1976-129 and the piece can be seen on the Monticello.org website. The piece features traditional joinery, custom cast brass handles, brass casters and a marble top serving surface.
I chose mahogany for this reproduction to match the original. Walnut, tiger maple or cherry would also be very well suited to the design. Similar dumbwaiters or servers could be done in a variety of styles and designs. The size, style, wood selection, and coloring can be customized to suit the customer's requirements.
The photo below shows my reproduction of this piece in mahogany.
