Cherry Stand Up Desk with Adjustable Writing Surface
This desk is a stand up desk for writing or reading in a standing position - it can provide significant back relief and provides a welcome change from sitting at a desk all day. The desk shown was constructed with a blend of curly maple and cherry. This desk features pinned mortise and tenon joinery, a hand cut dovetail drawer and traditional hardware. The desk design features an adjustable writing slope that is adjustable in 6 increments from an angle of approximately 45 degrees to 15 degrees – and would be capable of folding completely flat to create a larger flat surface (with the exception of the book rest). There is a book rest on the lower edge of the sloped writing surface. The legs of the desk are tapered and a fixed shelf of 10” depth would be mortised into the legs below the drawer. The drawer has solid cherry turned knobs and the adjustable slope and support would feature reproduction quality brass hinges. The height of the center of the slanted writing surface is 46" from the floor (with the slope in it's lowest angled position). This height can be adjusted to suit the individual customer's height and preferences. The legs are connected with a "H-stretcher" / footrest at the bottom. The desk is finished with wiping varnish, then waxed and buffed to a satiny sheen.
