Two Drawer Chippendale Book Press
A pair of these curly cherry book presses were designed and built for a couple in Connecticut who were looking for two pieces to compliment their living room setting. These pieces were designed and constructed in the Chippendale style based closely on several examples from the 1740's - 1750's. This book press features four shelves behind the glass doors with a pair of deep, spacious drawers underneath. The glass doors and drawers lock with reproduction locks, and brass reproduction hardware is used throughout. The overall size of the cabinet can be customized to your space requirements and storage needs. This cabinet works equally well as a dining room piece for china storage and display. Additionally, the cabinet could easily be redesigned to accommodate entertainment equipment.
This cabinet could easily be built from Maple, Walnut, Mahogany or Cherry.
The dimensions of the book press are approximately 72" high x 60" wide x 15" deep - these dimensions can be customized to meet specific requirements.
The case construction is hand cut dovetail joints with sliding dovetails to attach the fixed shelves.
The glass doors feature pinned mortise and tenon construction with twelve individual panes of handblown reproduction glass in each door.
Reproduction quality brass hardware and hinges, lockable doors and drawers.
The back is constructed from shiplapped curly cherry boards.
Ogee bracket foot base.
The piece was finished with a hand rubbed wiping varnish, buffed and waxed to a warm satiny finish.
