Federal Style Sofa Table in Tiger Maple and Walnut
The sofa or hall table shown below was constructed in a Federal style from solid tiger maple and black walnut - this table is part of a three piece set designed for a customer's living room. The legs of this table are copied from a Sheraton style card table with hand turned feet and capitals and hand reeded tapered central sections. The overall dimensions of this table are approximately 53" wide x 16" deep x 28" high. The top of the table is based on the design of a card table from Maryland with canted corners and scalloped edges. The design of the table aprons with canted corners mirrors the top design. Walnut crotch ovals are inlayed on the table aprons and canted corner blocks these ovals are surrounded by a stringing of maple and walnut. The construction includes mortise and tenon joinery, single board top, hand shaped Sheraton legs and a hand shaped scalloped top.
