Child's Bentwood Rocking Chair
This child's bentwood rocker was a direct copy of a rocking chair that has been in my mother's family for several generations - believed to have originated in England. The chair frame is created from beech which was cut into strips and bent using a lamination technique. The bent forms are then profiled and joined together. After the frame assembly was completed, the chair was stained a rich brown color (to simulate the finish on the original), and finished with natural hand rubbed varnish – waxed and buffed to a satiny sheen. The chair was then hand caned using the same caning pattern as the original. This chair is perfectly sized for children from about 2 to 8 or 10 years old.
